Summary of the Pkra Dakhla

Today we finished the second tour stop of this fresh PKRA season. What a great event it was here in Morocco. Once again, Dakhla didn’t let the best kiteboarders in the world down with delivering them great conditions every day of the competition. The wind was stronger than in the last years with wind up to 35 knots.

With more than 120 registered riders for freestyle and wave, it was really busy here in the camp in the Western Sahara. Over 60 men entered the freestyle comp so the battle for the 10 open spots of the main event was very tough. In the girls division we had 12 competitors and therefore no trials.

The most outstanding performances in the trials have been showed by Youri Zoon, Hilario Robinson and Carlos Mario, which made them not only go into the main event but also a tough competition for the seeded guys.

The single elimination saw an interesting draw with Youri Zoon facing Carlos Mario in his first main event heat after his comeback and the winner was straight up against Christophe Tack, the current leader of the ranking. Youri showed no signs of holding back after his injury and defeated Mario, but had to take a close loss in the heat against Tack. Hilario could not keep up his good performance and lost in the second round. Alex Neto showed lots of confidence after his podium in Panama and made his way till the losers final, in which he lost to Aaron Hadlow. The winners final was Marc Jacobs against Tack with Tack having the better end for himself after showing some very difficult tricks like a blind-judge 7 and a crowmobe 5.

The doubles were marked by some interesting comebacks from guys who had to start in the first round. Mario Rodwald and I made it up to the 7th place after winning 3 heats each. Carlos Mario could score the 6th place, which is a very nice result for him after not making the trials in Panama at the first Pkra stop. The comeback guy, Youri Zoon, could take the 5th place, which put a big smile in his face. On the podium we saw some changes from the singles with Neto taking 3rd place, Tack on 2nd and Marc Jacobs from New Zealand winning the second Pkra stop.

In the women’s division Gisela Pulido was unstoppable on her way to the top. She showed some impressive new tricks. For example some toe side maneuvers like a Tootsie Roll, which is a S-Mobe, but with a take off from riding toe side. Bruna Kajiya was also very happy. She had her first competition in Panama after an injury and now she already took the 2nd place in this comp. The winning girl in Panama, Karolina Winkowska, had to be satisfied with finishing 3rd.

After all the stressful competition we had an intense party with all the riders and the price giving ceremony to wrap up another great event. Now we have a break for about a month until it’s time for the 3rd event, which will happen in Leucate, France end of April.
