Kitesurfing during the whole year

Find best holidays for every month

Rhodes is more than just a spot with good wind. Sure, that’s why most of us are here – but the island has so much more to offer that it’d be a shame to only look at the water. In the mornings, the Meltemi is usually still calm; it really picks up from midday – the perfect time to squeeze in a little trip before you hit the water.
Kos feels like a second home to me now – yet with every visit I discover new favorite spots. Some are a little off the tourist trail, others you might already know, but all have earned a firm place on my list. Here are my absolute favorites that I visit every time I’m on the island.
Kitesurfing and family – for many, that sounds like a mismatch. One enjoys time on the water while the others sit bored on the beach? Not at our family spots. We’ve picked five locations where kiting, kids, and partners all get their money’s worth – with safe conditions and plenty to do off the spot so no one complains.
Who says kite holidays and family life only fit again once the kids are older? We didn’t accept that. Early 40s, both kite-obsessed, our son just three months old – and still we went for it: kitesurfing on Kos with a baby. We chose Kos, specifically Mastichari. A spot that immediately gives you that relaxed vibe you want for a holiday with a baby. A wide beach, plenty of space for gear, stroller, and shade – plus consistently good wind that instantly made us feel the trip was worth it.

Learning to kitesurf – when is the right time?

Many people watch riders from the beach and delay their first course for months. Too dangerous, too hard, too expensive – almost everyone starting out has these thoughts. But the best time is always the same: now.

Kitesurfing isn’t about age, strength, or prior experience. You don’t need board-sport skills, sculpted arms, or surf experience. What you do need: time at the beginning, and the will to stick with it even when progress isn’t instant. The wind is unpredictable – that’s part of it. Accept that, and your first progress will come faster than you think.

A solid base fitness is enough. You should be able to swim and weigh at least 30 kg. There’s no upper limit – neither for weight nor age. Learning at 40, 50, or 60 is no problem as long as you feel fit and are up for something new.

There are spots you don’t reach via highway – where asphalt ends and sand begins. Tatajuba is one of those places you never want to leave – far from mass tourism, set in a lagoon landscape that feels made just for kitesurfers.

What makes Tatajuba special is the strong wind, warm water, and quiet. The kitesurfing, the simplicity – walking barefoot through the sand, watching the sun sink into the sea. And the people who live here and give this little village its own character. After a long day on the water, a cool caipirinha and a fresh oyster make the perfect evening even sweeter.

And right in the middle is Osvaldo: born and raised here, manager of our kite center, and the one who shows you his home spot.

“Everything is in wonderful balance: nature, kiting, community. You just have to experience it yourself.” Osvaldo · Kite Center Manager, Tatajuba

Rhodes is an island you always come back to — and this time, after over five years, it was a true reunion for me. Arriving by ferry from Kos, the first saganaki on the beach, and a kite session with only six kiters in the water — this kitesurf trip in Greece shows why Rhodes is among the best spots for beginners and intermediates. I’ll take you through the medieval Old Town of Rhodes, the sleepy mountain village of Theologos, and sessions at the spot — and of course to the KiteWorldWide dinner at Taverna Drosia, where the table was overflowing. A community trip that proves: kitesurfing is more than wind and water. It’s the people, the evenings, the like-minded crew — and that feeling of being exactly in the right place.

Sicily is Laura’s second home – and has been for years. She’s spent every summer on the island for a decade, and for two years she’s even lived there full-time. That makes her the perfect contact for everything Sicily has to offer. As our KiteWorldWide guide on site, she’s not only your first stop for all things kiting – she’s also your personal insider for the best local restaurants, hidden gems, and everything that makes a stay in Sicily unforgettable.

No wonder kitesurfing in Sicily is among the Mediterranean’s most popular kite trips: the Lo Stagnone lagoon offers turquoise, shallow water with perfect conditions – whether you’re a beginner taking your first tacks or an advanced rider working on new tricks. Our kite camp in Sicily sits right in the heart of this spot paradise, and spring shows the island at its best: steady wind, pleasant temperatures, and no high-season crowds. Anyone who’s been here quickly understands why kitesurfing experiences in Sicily are so consistently praised – and why the best time to travel is basically any time Laura is around.

We asked Laura a few questions – and she reveals what makes this island so special to her:

When you think of kiting in Morocco, you might picture the endless flat-water lagoon of Dakhla. But there’s a place that makes kiters’ hearts beat faster who seek real life: Essaouira. Here the wind whistles past the ochre fortress walls, the famous blue fishing boats rock to the Atlantic’s rhythm, and the scent of spices and fresh mint tea fills the air.
Punta Chame is one of my absolute favorite spots. Steady wind, day after day, with 28-degree water. At mid-tide a silky-smooth flatwater lagoon forms right in front of the camp; a few hours later small waves roll in – no day is like the next. Add the vibes at the station, unique accommodations, great food, and sunsets you won’t forget. You simply can’t get off the water.

Gamu took her first kitesurfing steps in Seahorse Bay, Egypt – and what can we say … the progress is impressive! Gamu shares her first impressions and how she got into kitesurfing.

After day three and only her second time on the water, she already glided a few meters – maybe five. But the very next day it turned into a steady ride in one direction. These are the moments we love: when those first cautious meters suddenly become real kitesurfing.

We’re super proud to welcome another kitesurfer to our team. Welcome to the club, Gamu! Progress like this shows what’s possible with the right conditions, great coaching, and a little courage. Maybe you’re next?

What does it feel like to stand on the board for the first time? We asked Gamu about her first steps on the water – and she gave us exciting insights into her kitesurf beginnings:

Join Marina from the KiteWorldWide team on her trip to Dakhla, Morocco, a true paradise for kitesurfers. You’ll learn how to get there, which accommodation options exist, and which spots suit beginners and intermediates best. Plus, this report offers plenty of practical tips and tricks to keep your own Dakhla trip relaxed and safe.

From the van to the plane. Last year I was on the road with my van in Sardinia. Now I'm here again, but a whole new experience is waiting for me: A week kitecruise in the most beautiful bays of Sardinia. Far away from crowded beaches.
Anne has been traveling the world with KiteWorldWide from the very beginning, scouting the best kite spots. This time Anne is back in Seahorse Bay in Ägypten and definitely at the right place at the right time. The wind was so good from day one that she started out on a 10 m² kite and quickly switched to a 6 m².
