Kitesurfing in Fuerteventura

Kite holidays in the south of Fuerteventura

We are back in Fuerteventura! Even though, as some of you will remember, we left Fuerte in 2013, we have always kept a keen eye on the island. It ticks so many boxes from a kite perspective and is a great short haul winter destination. We are therefore really happy to have finally found a lovely partner and the island’s best flat-water kite spot in Matas Bay so we are BACK!

Fuerteventuras’ high season runs from March through to the end of November, but you can also score some great days through the winter months of December & January. With an average temperature of 20 degrees and more than 20 kiteable days it makes it a great winter escape.

Matas Bay, where we will be located is a great flat water spot that is NOT tide dependent, this enables you to kite all day. There are also numerous wave spots dotted around the island, also making it a perfect destination for more advanced kiters.

On top, this Canary Island is blessed with plenty of natural beauty, spectacular landscapes and a thrilling range of activities. Visit some of the many natural pools or the Jurrasic style caves at Ajuy. Hike one of the many trails, including both volcanic paths, coastal trails. to stunning viewpoints. Surf some of the best waves in Europe. Sailing, Zoo, Scuba Diving, Jeep Safaris, Aqua Parks or Wine tasting – we are sure you will not get bored!

Kitesurfing Fuerteventura, Matas Bay – Costa Calma

The spot in Matas Bay is unique for Fuerteventura. The area surrounding the spot is flatter, so the wind is more consistent and the spot itself is not dependent on the tide, so we can take advantage of every minute of wind. For a few meters there is a shallow area as you enter and then it gets deep. The wind comes side off-shore, which makes the water butter flat or smooth as glass! We have an excellent boat service for lessons as well as for free riders, this enables you to kite freely and, if needed, be brought back to your starting point.

In winter and summer Fuerteventura has a light to moderate northeast trade wind. The local thermal reinforcements and jet effects make the island a unique kiting spot. In winter Fuerteventura offers an average temperature of over 20°C and just as many windy days. An ideal destination for all those within Europe who like to spend the winter in the warmth!

Your thick wetsuits can stay at home. In the summer boardshorts or a bikini is enough. In winter you can also go with a 3/2mm wetsuite. We recommend neoprene shoes, depending on time of the year they can be a lot of small stones at the beach and some in the water.

If the wind is not blowing, we’ve included a couple of no-wind activities in your kite package. Try your balance on the SUP, grab a kayak or go for a snorkel-excursion in the azure blue water.

Activities in Fuerteventura

Playa de Jandia

Playa de Jandia is one of the most beautiful beaches in Fuerteventura, many even say it is the most beautiful of all. The wide beach stretches for several kilometres and consists of fine, light-coloured sand. Because its dimensions are so huge, the beach is never really full.

Morro Jable

Morro Jable was once a sleepy fishing village. Hotel bunkers have now been built on the outskirts of the village, but the village centre still retains its charm. Morro Jable is the perfect place to enjoy some sea-view tapas and relax.

Faro de Punta Jandía

At the southern tip of the island stands the Faro de Punta Jandía lighthouse. The lighthouse is fully automated and works entirely with solar energy. Since 1850 it has been helping ships not to run on reef.

When visibility is good, you can see all the way to Gran Canaria from there. When you have reached the lighthouse, you have officially reached the end of Fuerteventura. You are now at the extreme south-western tip of the island and from here you can head back towards Morro Jable.

Shopping and partying in Costa Calma

Costa Calma is the best place for shopping and partying. You can walk here or jump in a taxi. A taxi costs only 3-4€. For night owls we can recommend the Night Lounge, a stylish club with an open air lounge.

The old island capital Betancuria

One of the best sights on the island is the old island capital Betancuria. It was Spain’s first colonial town and has retained its nostalgic flair.

General information about your kite holiday in Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is part of Spain and therefore has the euro as its official currency.

Fuerteventura is part of Spain and therefore, as an EU citizen, you do not need a visa to enter the country. However, you do need an identity document (passport or identity card) which is valid for at least six months upon entry.

All non-EU citizens are welcome to contact us or their embassy for entry information.

The flight connections to Fuerteventura are very good and there are direct flights from almost every major airport in the UK several times a week at reasonable prices! (Sometimes even £20 return flights from London Stansted)

We do not offer an airport transfer. However, there are very cheap rental cars on Fuerteventura. Gladly we help you with it!

In Bahia Calma a rich breakfast is included in the price.
In COOEE Taimar half board.

Around the spot and accommodation you will find a lot of great restaurants and bars for all tastes and budgets. We recommend renting a car, this is the easiest way to discover all the beauty of Fuerteventura and easy access to restaurants and supermarkets in the area.

In Matas Bay VDWS / IKO licensed teachers are waiting for you and train you in small groups with the material from Nobile, Gaastra and Airush. In the bay you will have the best flat water – perfect for learning to kitesurf and to try your next trick!
