Travel the World – Birte in Sri Lanka

Season opening in Sri Lanka has nearly arrived. Our center manager Birte is on the way to Kalpitiya to set up the new season.

My first job is to check the downwinder spots “Dreamspot” and “Magicspot”, if this is work, I want to work all day. The spots are in perfect conditions. The first guests can arrive!

BIrte3After two days of beautiful weather, it starts to rain on the third. But we are not discouraged. The equipment is on the way to the lagoon by boat, and we follow in the offroad truck, the new “Lorry”. 25-40 knots are waiting for us at the lagoon. After some hours of kiting the wind is getting stronger so we decide to go back to the lodge.

Birte5Back there the daily afternoon snack is already waiting for us. Strengthened and fully motivated, the beginners are having a theoretical session. At the evening we are all having dinner together and enjoy our time here in Kalpitiya.

Birte6Due to the continuing rain, the streets are almost impassable. No problem for us at all, we just take the boat which takes us to the spot. At least the wind is perfect. And as we arrive at the beach the sun welcomes us, what a timing! The conditions are perfect for a long, extensive session. At noon we have a short break with some salad and sandwiches. After the delicious meal we continue with another awesome kite session till the sun goes down.

Exhausted but happy we are back in the lodge. After lunch we close out the day with a drink in our hands.

Birte8The next morning awakes us with bright sunshine and 20-30 knots. Ideal conditions to spend the whole day on the water. The excellent mood is staying with us the whole day, so that we end the day with dinner and some drinks under the stars of Sri Lanka.
