Marlo’s winter escape to the Seahorse Bay, Egypt

The last 4 days I was lucky enough to fly over to our Seahorse Bay in Egypt. Arrived on the airport in Hurghada I was picked up right at the gate by Gamal the transfer driver. In the one hand the KiteWorldWide sign, in the other already my visa. Overtaking the cue at the visa desk I could directly proceed to the immigrations. Here I met Janike, who also on her way to the Seahorse Bay. Driving through the Egyptian night we spoke about previous journeys, upcoming ones and of course: the choice of kite equipment.

Arrived at the kiteclub we have been warmly welcomed and showed around by Kiki, the owner. Also, we were spontaneously put on the list for the evening trip to El Gouna.

I quickly stored my luggage, freshened up, checked the wind for tomorrow and at 19:00 all guests met for the 4 courses dinner, which left nothing to desire.

Fresh cesar salad, an even for me as finicky eater seriosuly nice soup an as main course wahlweise beef, chicken, fish or vegetarian. As desert we were served an incredible muffin, topped with powder sugar and filled with oranges. After no time one was familiar with everyone in the group and I felt as if I’ve never arrived only by myself.

After dinner our bus has already been waiting and we headed to El Gouna. One part of  the group strolled through the small alleys and feilschte on the local markets, the other faded away the day with a cold Stella beer in one of the beach bars.

Waking up the next morning, I slipped skillfull in my boardshorts and flip flops, grabbed my sunnies and checked the wind forecast. Holiday mode: ON!

Due to the fact, that the wind usually builds up slowly and fully starts around noon, I used the time for a short inspection of the Kiteclub and a rather longer breakfast. Instead of buffet there was a shopping cart system. One just chooses the wished parts of breakfast, puts it in the shopping cart and a couple of minutes later you’ll get everything freshly prepared. This can of course be repeated as often as you like. From joghurt, over toasts, omeletts, fruits, juices or cornflakes till arabian sweets. Nothing to be missed!

Just when the breakfast was processed, I started to hear the palms whistle. Jackpot! Put on the harness, choose kite and board and before I had my sun scream on, the beach boys had set up everything. This my girlfriend could learn from ;)

With a big smile on my face I inspected the spot. Over the flatwater, pass the right half of the spot with its desert landscapes and the left half with its palm beaches and diving yacht harbours, I reached my goal: the pool at the end oft he spot. Here the water is azure blue and 1-2 meters deep. The ideal place to jump, loop and just enjoy yourself.

The upcoming days went on similar. Breakfast together with the other guests in the morning, kiting at noon till (and especially during) sunset and excursions, oriental nights with tea, shisha and stories by Ibi or billiard and table soccer games. It has been so great! … and just way too short!
