Kitesurfing in January and February

After the pleasant days around Christmas and New Years Eve, the daily routine comes back very quickly. By and by you have to realize that the new year only looks different in the calendar. And to be honest: Everybody can renounce the Winter Wonderland after Christmas – in big cities it’s only snow mud anyway. The sea and hard wind is waiting for you. Where? At our eight winter destinations:

Kenya – Kite Lodge

+ Dreamlike kite lodge – now managed by KiteWorldWide

+ Diverse flatwater spot

+ Absolutely reliable wind in winter, good wind statistics in summer

+ VDWS kitecenter with only the latest gear

+ Exclusively at KiteWorldWide

During the winter season, you can kite directly in front of the lodge. The main spot is a 5 kilometer long river mouth, which is protected by a mangrove forest in the North and South and by a reef in the East.
Because of that, also with strong winds the water remains shallow. With high and low tide, the spot changes due to its sand banks and creates great variation for advanced kite surfers. In the summer season, the kitesurfing will take place on Flipmode Island, a large sandbank across from the Lodge. Also the courses will be held here. You’ll take a boat about 20 minutes into the open sea to get there. You’ll find a huge shallow area about 1 km wide. On the side with offshore wind, there is a boat just in case, so you don’t have to worry about drifting away.

South Africa – Cape Town

+ KiteWorldWide Mansion Cape Town – lifestyle-loft-villa right at the spot

+ Unbelievable variety of spots

+ Numerous possibilities for activities and trips

+ Great community feeling at the Mansion

+ Exclusively at KiteWorldWide

End the year with a last downwind in the waves of Cape Town, only to start the next year with all the other kite surfers at the party in the KiteWorldWide Mansion. The west coast, north of Cape Town offers a variety of spots for all tastes and skills. Since the wind is amplified there by different thermal and topographic effects, a distance of just a few kilometers already has a great impact on the conditions. Right outside the door you will find the Sunset Beach, a spot that would actually be enough for a two-week kite trip. Depending on the swell, there are waves from one to several meters. Sunset Beach is more suitable for advanced kitesurfer. Unlike St. Peter Ording with its “choppy chaos”, you will find nice, long, “glassy-flats” in between the waves. You can really take a run for the next wave kicker.

The bay starting on Sunset Beach runs approximately one mile long to Blouberg beach. This bay is again divided into different sections. The names you’ve probably heard before: Dolphin Beach, Table View, Kitebeach. You probably already noticed it: the next key word is downwinder…
Sunset Beach is the perfect base for starting a downwinder up north. Ahead of Blouberg beach you will pass some heavy cliffs, only very experienced riders should pass here. Passing the cliffs you will get to the Big Bay with other conditions.

The wind starts at noon (so you can sleep late or relax in the morning exploring the area) and hits the south – homespot Sunset Beach – at first. Generelly the further north you go, the less wind. Quite different conditions can be found at the shallow water spot of Langebaan. Here in about an hour drive from the Mansion, even beginners will find a beautiful lagoon area, but it can get busy, especially during high season.

Zanzibar – Jambiani

+ Giant lagoon, sheltered by the reef, with turquoise blue water right in front of the lodge

+ Red Monkey Lodge right at the spot

+ Kitecenter at the lodge with latest gear

+ Winter and Summer destination

+ Exclusively at KiteWorldWide

This exclusive kitesurf spot is located directly in front of our lodge at the east cost of Zanzibar in Jambiani. It provides perfect conditions for beginners, advanced riders and freestyler. Here, a 2 km long sandbank forms a large shallow water lagoon, a perfect place for our lessons and trainings. The VDWS licensed instructor and our partner school, KiteWorldWide Center Zanzibar / Jambiani speaks English and German.

Only 5 km north of your “homespot” you will find the popular Spot: Pajé. The Water is shallow too. During the summer advanced kiters are able to do a downwinder to Pajé. The winter kitesurf season lasts from December till March. During the summer you can kitesurf from June until October. The wind is always sideshore and during the kitesurf seasons really reliable. This spot is strongly regulated by tides, but it is also possible to kitesurf under low tide conditions after a short walk on the beach. During high tide launching the kite can be more difficult, that’s why we recommend kiting during high tide only for advanced kiters.

Sri Lanka – Kalptiya

+ The first lodge directly at the lagoon with European standards

+ Massive flat water lagoon with numerous „glassy“ freestyle Spots

+ Super wind-proof during the season

+ Favourable flights, short-term booking possible

+ Delicious and exotic food

+ Professional Kite Center, owned by KiteWorldWide and exclusively for our guests

+ Advanced riders can launch right in front of the lodge in winter season

+ Free boatshuttle o the other site of the lagoon & lunch in the KiteWorldWide beach hut

+ Sri Lanka is the closest tropic destination from Europe and offers a lot of possibilities for exploring culture and making daytrips

+ Consistent warm and pleasant temperatures

+ Super friendly people on-the-spot and a stunning landscape

A stunning flat water lagoon and wind-proof, comparable to a long season in Brazil. Two seasons: from May till October and Dezember till March. In addition to that, the lodge right on the spot and a inimitable, exotic atmosphere.

Egypt – Seahorse Bay

+ Family like atmosphere at Ibi & Friends Kiteclub Seahorse Bay

+ Living right at the spot, without TukTuk rides

+ Complete packages for beginner, intermediate and advanced

+ Limited availability for more space on the water

+ NEW: 1 week Movie Gate Hotel including flight and transfer

Thanks to the large shallow-water area and the stable wind direction the spot is perfect for beginners. There is enough space in the lagoon as the number of students and storage slots is limited. This is why neither beginners nor advanced kiters feel restricted.

The shallow lagoon with sand and the fact that there are more than 70% windy days a year provides ideal conditions for unforgettable kitesurf sessions. Experienced kitesurfers can kitesurf independent of the tide in the so-called “pool” in the ocean.

Morocco – Dakhla

+ Gorgeous Kite Villa Camp
+ Diverse, shallow flat water spot in front of the Camp and wave spots around the corner
+ Perfect wind conditions from March to October, good wind from November to February
+ VDWS licensed kite center  under KiteWorldWide management
+ Exclusively at KiteWorldWide
+ New air links without overnight stop

Directly at the KiteWorldWide Villa Camp you will find the kite lagoon, which makes flat-water fans hearts’ beat two times faster and enables beginners to quickly make their first metres on the board. The spot is influenced by ebb and flow, yet the low tide still leaves the lagoon with sufficient water and space for everyone. Depending on the tidal level you will have a 150m to 300m wide shallow water area just in front of the KiteWorldWide centre. This is where 90 % of you will spend most of the time. The ground is sandy without any disturbing rocks or corals and the wind blows constantly and side-shore from the left. Thus, this spot offers the maximum of safety for beginners and ideal conditions for freestylers.

Cape Verde – Sal

+ Most reliable spot for the winter time only 6 flying hours away

+ New, professional kite station of Mitu Monteiro at Kite Beach

+ Learn to (wave-)kite surf from the world champion

+ Daily kite shuttle as well as side program inclusive

+ Season from November to March

+ Kitesurfing with Mitu – exclusively at KiteWorldWide

If you know where to go, you’ll discover an astounding array of different kitesurfing spots.

There are spots with side-onshore wind and small wind waves for intermediate kiters on the windward eastern side of the island. This is also where you’ll find the so-called Kite Beach and the new and stylish kite school of Mitu and Djo.

The spot Santa Maria in the south is a great, nearly perfect, beginner cove with flat water, so even freestyle kiters get their money’s worth. At the western part of Santa Maria is where you find Mitu and Djo’s professional kitesurfing school. This is also the only place in the bay of Santa Maria where you can kitesurf, as the wind comes in side-shore to side-onshore.

At the western corner of the bay, there is also an excellent wave spot. This is only recommended for proper kitesurfers, as the wind blows offshore. Those who doesn’t feel fit enough for the waves in Ponta Preta at the western part of the island, should still check out this spot to check out the pros ripping the waves.

Brazil – Tatajuba

+ Incredible beautiful Pousada, far from crowded spots

+ Shallow flat water spot right in front of the door and other spots nearby

+ VDWS Kite Center managed by KiteWorldWide

+ Best wind in Brazil

+ Jericoacoara only 45min away

+ Exclusively at KiteWorldWide

This really is a kitesurf paradise: one of the best shallow water spots with the most reliable and strongest wind in brazil. The wind blows constantly from July to the end of February and makes sure that you’ll have nearly endless kitesurf sessions. When the spots around Fortaleza “lose the puff” in December, you still have enough wind in your kite here for another two months. The spot is located right next to your accommodation and on the mouth of a river. Even at high tide you can find enough shallow areas, where you still can stand. You’ll have an unimaginable amount of space to cruise around and try out new jumps. A few hundred meter further down the mouth of the river, you’ll have another awesome spot with small “kicker waves” and only four kilometers away you’ll find a big sweet-water lagoon.
