Mike Schitzhofer’s Column: PKRA Dakhla

Here we are again. After a 3 week break, it’s time for the second Pkra tourstop of the 2014 season and it will happen in Dakhla, Morocco. This event takes place for the fourth time already here at the lagoon in the Western Sahara. Due to the good connections from Europe lots of riders found their way here. The trip to get here is not the easiest with its three flights from Austria. But this year I chose a route via Grand Canary, which ran smooth and easy. The connection times are great and it was easy to get my boardbag on the Canary Fly flight so it is definitely a good alternative to the route via Casablanca. I can really recommend it!

After three days of freeriding, training and getting in touch with the even-spot, it’s time for the registration today, because tomorrow is the first possible day of competition with trials very likely to happen.

Many riders used the break for training, for example in Tarifa, Spain as done by Christophe Tack, Stefan Spiessberger, Mario Rodwald and many more. Some brands already did their photo-shoots for the 2015 gear, like Cabrinha on Maui and Airush at the Carneval in Rio. Alex Pastor unfortunately could not make it to the shoot in Rio, as he had to undergo surgery after his shoulder injury in Panama. But there are good news as well. Youri Zoon is back after a long break since the Pkra in St. Peter Ording last season…

Here in Dakhla we are not only going to have a freestyle competition but also a wave-event. At the moment, this is the only wave competition of the season and therefore the who is who of the wave-kitesurf scene is here.
