This weekend the finals in the German national kitesurfing championships took place. As a Norwegian I cannot win the title “German Champion” but at least I might get some price money if I “do my job”;) And I like competing and seeing all my friends who also take part, actually it’s just another weekend on the coast which gives me a lot of good memories.
I haven’t been able to train since my last competition in St. Peter Ording – the Beetle Kitesurf World Cup – because I’ve been “sick”. By accident I discovered that my blood parameters somehow are way too low, so I ended up one week in the hospital – not because I didn’t feel good, but the doctors wouldn’t let me go. So far all tests haven’t found anything wrong, and all the doctors are really amazed by my case. I’m too fit for my numbers, they say. Still I’m not allowed to train nor do any hard exercises, but I figured out that a bit of kitesurfing during a couple of heats couldn’t do that much damage.
A good decision! We had some wind on Friday, like 10-20 knots, off shore and gusty. Most riders hated it, I loved it. The water was so flat and I was really motivated after weeks of not being able to kitesurf. I won my heats, doing one of the best competitions I’ve had so far. Unfortunately the wind dropped (and didn’t come back), so we couldn’t go through with the competitions. In this way I shared the 1st place with 3 other girls, and thanks to my former results I got the 1st place overall!! I’m really pleased and happy about that, considering I’m not even able to walk up the stairs to my flat without grasping for air.
Also I want to congratulate Susanne Brill with the title German Champion in Kitesurfing, she’s a great and likable girl always having fun on the water. Christine Bönniger surprisingly conquered the second place in front of the four times German Champion and at the moment 1st overall of the Kitesurf Tour Europe, Sabrina Lutz. A surprise as well was our teamrider Nils Wesch (not for us though;) ), who became 2nd place overall behind the five times German Champion, Mario Rodwald! This was his first year competing as a “senior”, so Mario certainly will have a strong contender for the podium the upcoming years in Nils.
Well, great event, great weather, great people and great parties. What more can you wish for?
Have a great week,
