Kite Holidays to Sal / Cape Verde
For GERMAN Version click here!
The hype around wave kite surfing is really just getting started. 2011 is the first year that the KSP – a competition world cup tour devoted completely to wave kite surfing - with the finals on Sal is held. We want to give you a closer look at wave kite surfing on Sal, since you can progress much faster with a few tips and tricks and wave kiting under guidance is much safer.
Together with THE wave kiter and wave world champion Mitu Monteiro we put together a plan especially for intermediate and advanced kiters who want to kite on waves for real.
We are offering one-week long kite camp with Mitu Monteiro, including five days of intensive wave training and spot guiding. Since numbers for the camp are extremely limited (8 kiters), we request that you book early. There are currently two clinics planned each time in January, February, March and April.
They are conducted one after another, are modular, so they are based on one another. That means that you can enroll in two clinics and use what you just learned the very next week! Since we set the Wave Clinic dates according to the charter flight schedule from Germany you may enjoy your holidays as long as possible with only a minimum of vacation days.
For those of you who want to give it a try and generally feel comfortable on a twin tip, but don´t want to buy a waveboard already we offer a wave basic package for all advanced kitesurfers. Of course there are a lot more opportunities for beginners and advanced kiters as well as for your non-kiting companion. Just have a look at our general Cape Verde site.

Dates and schedule of the Wave Clinics
Wave Clinic schedule
The evening before the Wave Clinic starts
The night before your first Wave Clinic Day, you’ll meet up with Mitu and the rest of the group at a nice get together at a beach bar. You’ll get to know Mitu and have the opportunity to discuss the plan for the rest of the week and definitely have time to talk about kite surfing.
Day 1
On the first day, you’ll head to the Kite Beach and get some of your first tips from the wave pros on how to use the board. Mitu will also check out how good you are on your board to determine which spots to take you to.
Day 2-5
Depending on the wind, swell, your ability, and personal wishes, Mitu will take you to the (secret) spots on the island in a all-terrain pickup. Just so you know: no one knows their way around here as well as Mitu!
Throughout the week, you’ll have a great dinner with typical local specialties and lots of fish (other alternatives also possible) in a sweet beach restaurant (not including drinks). That is a beach BBQ. Your meal, the long day of kiting, and the caipis at the beach bar afterwards will tire you out and let you dream about your next kiting day on the waves.
You can also plan stays before and after your wave kite Camp. We would love to help you plan other activities before and after camp.

Kitesurf and Kitespot Info Cape Verde / Sal
The choices of kite spots are astounding if you know where to go.
In the western part of the island you can find numerous wavespots.
In the bay of Baia da Murdeira you´ll find the spots Calhita Funda, Rife and Praia da Canoa. Baia de Joaquim Petinha is another spot to kite in the waves.
For the more adventurous, there are world-class wave spots (most of all, the waves at Ponta Preta as you may know from the tons of videos). The waves here are very fast and have been known to have wave faces up to eight meters on big days. Even if you’re not brave enough to go all the way out, you should still check out this spot and watch other kiters rip through the waves.
There are spots with side-onshore wind and small wind waves for intermediate kiters on the eastern, windward side of the island. This is also where you’ll find the so-called Kite Beach where there is currently a small wooden structure like a beach bar. At the moment, there are license procedures being conducted for this beach for a modern kite station by Mitu and Djo with a good beach bar and everything else you need. Whether or not the political cogs turn fast enough for this to come true by next season is another question, so no good predictions about Kite Center Sal can be made.
Santa Maria in the south is a great beginner cove with flat water, so even freestyle kiters get their money’s worth. The western part of Santa Maris is also where Mitu and Djo’s professional kite school is located. There you’ll find a large assortment of new F-One kite equipment: F-One Bandit4 (and Bandit5 after December, 2011), the new F-One Volt, and, of course, an enormous selection of twin tips and F-One wave boards. On the southwestern corner of the bay, there is also an excellent wave spot which is only recommended for those who can really kite surf due to the offshore wind.
It´s Mitu´s secret to which of these spots he will take you.

Accomodation for kitesurfers on Sal
On Cape Verde we are offering you the in 2011 finished KiteWorldWide apartments and the brand new Beach Club Sal in combination with different kite services.
With us you are not only booking flight and accommodation to be on your own afterwards. The package always includes a beach barbeque and get together at the beach bar. In addition you will receive the transportation from and to the airport, which will be done by Miu`s staff – therefore you will get actual kite information first hand on your way to the hotel.
Just choose the right package for you depending on your kite surfing level and your expectations.
BEACH CLUB SAL
A long period of waiting ends with the opening of this project. An accommodation right in the centre of Santa Maria directly on the beach with a pool and a relaxed beach bar. Built by kitersurfers for kitesurfers.
The Pousada which was completed in January 2012 hosts only five rooms and an integrated beach bar.
The rooms are arranged fashionable and rustic at once. You feel like being on a sailing ship because of the use of natural wood all over.
From the rooftop – terrace you have a spectacular view over the whole beach of Santa Maria.
An extensive breakfast buffet with tea, coffee, bread and rolls, eggs, omellete, bacon, yoghurt and fruits is already included.
Of course you would not miss anything here:
All rooms are equipped with an own marble flagged bathroom with warm water shower/WC, TV, ventilator, fridge, air condition (additional charge) and comfortable double beds.
The rooms on the first floor and one of the rooms on the ground floor impress with their clear view to the beach and a terrace.
One of the rooms on the ground floor is located in the backend of the pousada and has no view onto the beach (but is therefore a bit cheaper).
One of the rooms is meant for up to four persons, two rooms for up to three persons and one for up to two persons.
